I'm doing a research project at the moment~and I need a source for writing up my report
please help me answer some question

1) What is your attitude towards robots? (ranking of 1 to 10,1 is worst,10 is best)
2) Why do you think people invented robots?
3) How fast do you think the robots are developing (Is it very fast or not so fast? Include some examples e.g. from Microsoft 95 to Microsoft Vista)?

1 to 10? 1 being worst or best?

1) I think robots are neat, but will not come into real-life production usage till maybe 50 years down the line.

2) various type of usage for robots - 3 main types would be for the elderly/handicap, military and space R&D.

- Japan already made several robots prototypes (more like exoskeletons) that assists elderly walk.
- I've heard military made some exoskeletons suit that enhances strength (no proof on this) but imagine if they apply optical camouflage and armor on those things. and yes, optical camouflage is possible.
- space R&D...you know those mars robots. :x
- bomb squad also uses a robot to defuse bombs.
- robot dogs and cats!

3) not so fast due to it's limit on real-life usage.

4) my definition of robots are machines that normal machinery exist nowadays can't do.

5) separate fantasy robots from reality...no Gundams don't exist! really! (not yet anyways)

let life easier, time saving, protect worker from dangerous situation etc.

not so fast in general I think, there must be some key issues hard to solve, such as the level of artificial intelligence or human moral issue which draws the robot only a robot, the stories in fancy movie or novel are hard to achieve.

any mechanical stuff run by itself and have creature's appearance...
5) What are the things you know that is significant about development of robots?
in my opinion,how to give robot a self consciousness is pretty crucial.

8 , not so bad I guess . . . .
It depends on the purpose we make the robots for,
if they're for war as weapons . . ., then I wouldn't want any of them
however in the other hand, if it's made for conviences, then why not?

1. to accomplish the impossibles.
2. for convience
3. money, they can save us tons of money to do some repetitive works instead of a worker.
4. efficiency, they are more efficient as they do not sleep, 24/7

I do not think they are developing fast, if they are, we would have seen them pretty much everywhere.
and "from Microsoft 95 to Microsoft Vista" . . . they are not robot, but operating systems.

4) From your point of view, what is an exact definition of robots?
robot is a machine that works on electric and perform tasks repetitively as of now, and can be remotely controlled or whatever they called it.
if they have a thought of their own, then they would be uncontrollable by human. they can calculate or think faster than us @_@

5) What are the things you know that is significant about development of robots?

6) What is one of the earliest robots that you know of?
......perhaps some robots developed in MIT of USA,, theres none I know of.

1-) I think that I will give them an 8..

2-) well... I think that the first reason about why humans create robots its because, humans wanted to explore and do things that they cant do becasue they are humans, and they wanted to reach places, things, or do a certain thing in higer level of perfection.

3-) mm,,, well windows is an OS.. its not a robot.. robotic is not only the program that runs as an Artificial Intelligence, it also needs the hardware.. and I think that they are beeing develop slowly becasue it needs a lot of time to be ready and done.

4-) a robot is an artifitial sistem that can develop actions, solve problems and also reach to the "BEST" thing to do when it face a problem betwen what its good or bad to the oders, also "think" about the damage it can do. thats my definition of that "sistem" but, a robotic hardware that is control by a human could be it too, also if you only use the software, I mean that if you use them sepetared.

5-) I think that the most important about developing robots its to think about the "need" that it will solve.

6-) I have seen the medical use of it, a robotic sistem was used to do a surgery in to an eye because the cut needed was so samll that the human hand cant do it without harming a nerve in the eye.

10, since they can eliminate menial and boring jobs that I do, so I can enjoy the company of fellow human beings (especially girls) more, lol, and also because gives me more time to be creative.

2) Why do you think people invented robots?

Can't say if one person invented robot. In Japan's industry, any machine (does not need to look like a human at all, as you probably know!!) that automates a person's job is a robot. Thus an automated screwdriver in a car assembly plant is a robot as well by that definition. By this definition, the very first automation to do anything would be a robot. However, a better definition would involve some automated piece of machinery, with sufficient ability to manouvere around in uncontrolled environments with the help of sensor(s), so as to create an impression that it was performing with some intent of its own. Here, we differentiate the (electro)mechanical robot from software "bots" as well. However, the electromechanical robot is also "programmable", i.e., a person can make it behave differently by accessing its logic unit through some code.

The robot as such is thus hard to pin on a single inventor. However, the word "robot" was invented by Karel Capek in a play called Rossums' Universal Robots. The robots in that play are "androids" (do you need me to explain that?).

3) How fast do you think the robots are developing (Is it very fast or not so fast? Include some examples e.g. from Microsoft 95 to Microsoft Vista)?

Not so fast, we are quite far from providing any kind of human emotions to them that you might come across in mecha anime or even in hentai ;-).

a better definition would involve some automated piece of machinery, with sufficient ability to manouvere around in uncontrolled environments with the help of sensor(s), so as to create an impression that it was performing with some intent of its own.

5) What are the things you know that is significant about development of robots?

From the science fiction point of view, Isaac Asimov's novels have really done wonders! Try reading "I, Robot".

Leonardo da Vinci made a design of a "mechanical knight" (the guy drew designs for almost everything. Have you read the da Vinci code?)

Unimate, the first modern robot, with digital electronis, programmable, invented by George Devol in 1954.

BTW, Windows Vista is a regression actually, you can not think of it as progress at all. lol...
